The Temporary Business Grouping (RTI) led by Gpi ranked first in the tender for the development of the digital Anatomical Pathology solution for the Health Entities of the Lombardy Region. The total contract value is €12 million, with €9.1 million allocated to Gpi. This project strengthens the Group’s presence in one of Italy’s most innovative regions and reaffirms its leadership in diagnostic innovation at a national level.
Specifically, the platform addresses the need to unify and digitise tissue diagnostics processes, which are essential in oncology pathways and screening programs. This standardisation will foster integration between hospitals and the local healthcare network, enabling the management of over 1.3 million services per year. The digitisation of 4.5 million glass slides (12,000 per day) will streamline diagnostic times and optimise resources, benefiting both patients and healthcare professionals.
The integration of Artificial Intelligence will enable faster and more reliable diagnoses by automatically identifying biomarkers and histological patterns. The system will also provide advanced archiving and image-sharing capabilities, facilitating real-time consultation among specialists. Additionally, a Business Intelligence dashboard will allow for productivity monitoring, resource optimisation, and greater responsiveness across the entire system.
This award marks a significant step forward for patients and healthcare professionals in Lombardy: the adoption of a unified system not only raises quality standards in diagnosis and care but also reinforces the concept of a National Health Service where technological innovation becomes synonymous with high-quality patient care.
