The 2022-2024 Industrial Strategic Plan includes investments in innovation, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is a tool that requires significant resources in terms of computing, storage, and energy. In this context, the Intacture project comes into play, a data center that will be built within an active mine in Val di Non (TN). This innovative project, the only one of its kind in Europe, is coordinated by Trentino Data Mine, a public-private company led by the University of Trento and participated in by several local companies, including Gpi. In practice, the constant temperature of 12 degrees will allow for a PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of less than 1.25. This is considerable when compared to the average PUE of European data centers, which stands at 1.6. Furthermore, to minimize the overall environmental impact, the remaining energy demand will be offset by renewable energy sources.
